It has been well over a week since my last post, and I thought I would explain why that is… I have finally completed my book, Cyberwink: one woman’s inside scoop on maneuvering the Web’s “meet market”.
Working on this project since 2007, and especially striving for the finish line this past year, I am happy to announce that I have just ordered my proof copy this afternoon! 🙂
This journey was one that included many unexpected twists and turns, but I have loved every minute of it.
Going to the Shop and Pitch conference in New York City last March, was an eye opener for me about the publishing industry, and how it operates. What I discovered was that for my type of book, self-publishing is the best option. Createspace, which is affiliated with Amazon.com, is my publishing venue of choice. They will print my soft cover book on demand, and I will hold all rights to it. It will be available on Kindle as well, for those who like to download their books.
Whether I had pursued a traditional publishing house or not, I would have had to market the book myself, so why not do it where I don’t have to worry about my book being “out of print” if it is not selling as quickly as they would like. Once that happens, they own it and the author has no rights to it.
Let me just say that I had a lot of help from friends and family, who have been a great support for me- a village that helped this project reach fruition.
Ruben- Thanks for the help with the website- I love it, and you are incredibly helpful when I do need your technical advice!
Jenn- My copy editor with the bleeding pen! Thanks for the great feedback and the insights you provided, to help make this book a better one.
Ada- The technological whiz kid! You are such a fantastic friend. Thanks for all the time you spent to help with the cover and the interior design of Cyberwink.
Mike- You provided some great tips and helped me brainstorm for the cover too. You have been a great support!
Jose- Your tips in my book were so clever and well written- Maybe you should write your own book?!
All my blog subscribers- The encouragement that many of you provided, and inquiries into when my book would be available, lit a fire under me!
So I should receive my proof copy by Tuesday, and hopefully in the next week or so I can provide details where you can find it. I am already working on a few more projects, which I will focus on once this book is up- Also stay tuned for more consistent blog postings!
